Life of “Engineer” On Friday Evening

It was another rainy Friday to end the working hours of the week and I was forced to stop at the traffic signal. I was in a splendid mood as it was a Friday evening and the downpour had marked the perfect start of my weekend. I looked around and saw people on bikes and cars all waiting for the signal to turn green. Suddenly my eyes fell on a dirty, shabby man on his bicycle trying to make way and come in front. Finally he landed up just beside me. I felt a great sense of pride being superior in some way to most of the people around. I looked down upon the “bicycle man” and said to him -”Just look at yourself! You are pathetic with dirt all around your body and clothes! Can’t you do some clean and respectable work?” Feeling insulted, the man rode off without replying.

I took pride in the undignified work that I had just done and zoomed my way back home. As I reached home, there was no electricity and the kitchen sink drain-pipe was jammed because of the heavy rain. I hurriedly dialed the plumber and I was told that the plumber would reach my place in an hour. It was 9pm and my doorbell rang! I opened the door to find the same “bicycle man” standing in front of my door with his plumber-toolkit! I was filled with shame and my pride had reached its nemesis. I showed him the pipe and being an expert he fixed it in no time. As he was about to leave he turned back and said to me –“Sir, just imagine what would have happened if my body and clothes were not dirty and my work was clean and respectable?” --- I was speechless!

A great lesson of life was learnt. Every Friday I would almost do the same things, feel the same way and be the same person. But this Friday had changed my thinking and my attitude towards people and life! The real meaning of work is to do whatever we do with sincerity and dedication. The goal of our lives should be to respect and love one and all and to do our work with sincerity and dedication. It will surely help us to be better individuals and also lead us to the zenith of success!

thOughts...

“The woods are lovely dark and deep, but I’ve promises to keep…”

It was my best friend, Ronnie’s 16th birthday. I gifted him a cricket bat and hugged him to show how special he was to me. He was very happy and told me to make a promise. A promise that I would always be his best friend and be the best in whatever I do!

The next day we were at the riverside in a picnic mood to celebrate the day. We enjoyed our maximum singing and dancing. We had planned for a game of cricket after our lunch and soon it was time to play. I hit a big shot and Ronnie ran after the ball to stop it. The ball was hit hard and it landed in the waters. Ronnie not realizing the current went after it, into the waters. The water current started pulling him back. I could see him drowning and I shouted for help. The area was isolated and none came for help. I saw my best friend fighting for life and I could do nothing. In a minute Ronnie could be seen nowhere. I cried and cried a lot!

The next day his body was found on the other side of the river. The pain of death and separation had encompassed me and I was shocked. It took me years to recover but I realized a very important thing in life. Life has to go on, and I still have promises to keep! Ronnie’s death was an eye opener for me. Life’s very small and we have to overcome the pain of death and separation of our beloved ones. Not because we wish to forget them but to fulfill and keep the promises that we made to them. As I promised Ronnie, I would be the best but it was not going to be easy achieving it. However I have a goal and I have a promise to keep! That is my driving force, so I’ll never quit whatsoever. Life’s lovely and at the same times its dark and deep. Yet we have to live and prove ourselves in this life. Life is NOT a bed of roses. More importantly it was never meant to be so! So we should keep striving, keep working and it’s sure that we’ll keep succeeding!

B2 v3.0 - bangalOre calling!

It was 3 PM, 28th December 2009. I was about to start my journey into a new life! Everything was uncertain and I did not know what would happen once I reach Bangalore. The train tickets were still not confirmed and my packing was in the process. By 5 PM somehow I finished my packing (Most of the things were not taken, which I realized when I reached Bangalore). Gaurav was there with me and luckily at 6 PM when I checked my ticket, it was confirmed. So we were to board the Bangalore Rajdhani at 8.30.PM from Nizamuddin (Delhi). We reached the station on time and here I was all ready to face a new life. A life away from all my near and dear ones… a life all by myself! Our train was on time and we adjusted our luggage in the comfy 2 tier sleeper coach. Although every part of the bogie was shaking as the train moved but our co-passengers were good and we had a great time in the train. It took 33 hrs to reach Bangalore City and here we were in a new city, amidst new people, in a new life!

As we had no-place to stay we took an auto (after quite an unsuccessful bargaining) to Gaurav’s brother’s place. I liked Bangalore at the first go, except for its narrow one way roads! Soon we were at Gaurav’s brother’s place and we spent almost a week here.

My first day in office was on 31st Dec, 09. We had to reach electronic city, which was around 25kms from where we were staying. We had to change 2 buses and finally we reached the spot on time. It was a 5 star hotel where our induction and joining formalities were conducted. The session went smoothly and I felt great to be a part of HCL Technologies now! There could not be a better end of 2009, which had gone indeed bad for me health wise. But now I was about to enter a new professional life with full of dreams, full of energy and full of excitement.

So far life in HCL has been great. We had a corporate training for about 1 week which was a great learning experience for me. We were taught all business etiquettes, starting from how to converse, to how to dine with clients. Moral values, email etiquettes, business strategies - everything was covered and there was so much to learn from it! Soon after the training, I was assigned to the Deustche Bank Risk Engine project. I was very lucky to get a great team. My project manager welcomed me to the group and I was told about each and every thing happening in the project. He introduced me to the other team members and it was a very good experience for me. People here are so professional and so well to speak. I am very happy with the work environment I have and I hope it’ll remain the same in future as well.

After one week stay in Bangalore, I got my bike transported from Delhi. So now I had no transportation problem. I also shifted to Soumen da’s place and we got a new “awesome” 2BHK flat for ourselves. I know Soumen da right from my childhood, so it was great to be with him and learn so many things. Be it washing clothes or cooking or cleaning - I am still getting some great training from him. Bhaskar da and Swagata di were two new characters in my life. They are actually Soumen da’s friends, however I was overwhelmed by their friendly and loving nature. In no time all of us became great friends. I was treated so specially that I forgot I am far away from my family. Now every weekend we go out and freak out. We enjoy like hell and have loads of fun! It has been really a great experience and I consider myself very lucky to have such wonderful people in my life!

Life in Bangalore is fast and busy like it was in Delhi. But now I am independent and it feels great to earn my own living. It has been a great start to my new “life” and right now I’m enjoying every single moment of it!

Cheers!
